Out of the Ashes

A documentary focusing on the 2009 Victorian bushfires and featuring Healesville Sanctuary will be screened on ABC 1 Television on Sunday 13 February at 7.30pm.

The devastation of the Victorian bushfires in February 2009 made headlines around the world. Not only were the paths of many human lives to be changed forever, so too was this natural wilderness and its wildlife inhabitants.

Burned to a blackened and silent wasteland, over the following 12 months using strategically located satellite controlled time lapse cameras, Out of the Ashes documents an amazing struggle as nature embarks on the regeneration of one of the earths most unique environments.

Written and directed by Dione Gilmour, Out of the Ashes is a wonderful tribute to the many staff and carers who worked tirelessly to rescue and rehabilitate injured animals. The documentary features veterinary staff from the Australian Wildlife Health Centre as well as a number of Healesville Sanctuary keepers
