Upwey High School supports bushfire-affected wildlife

02 July 2009

Healesville Sanctuary has received a generous donation from Year 10 students at Upwey High School to support the Australian Wildlife Health Centre's work with bushfire victims.

During a two week school trip to Central Australia, these 160 students ran many fun fundraisers and decided to donate it to the Australian Wildlife Health Centre.
Students were concerned about the impact of the bushfires on wildlife, and wanted to support the work of Healesville Sanctuary in the rescue, treatment and rehabilitation of Victoria's native wildlife.

Kelly Wynn, Veterinary Nurse from Australian Wildlife Health Centre, Healesville Sanctuary lives in Upwey and was delighted to accept a cheque for $1,900 from the students at Cameo Cinema Belgrave on Tuesday 23 June.

The funds raised will support the ongoing work of the Australian Wildlife Health Centre after the bushfires, including long term rehabilitation and release of native animals such as Wombats, Sugar Gliders, Koalas and Echidnas.
