The national 2008 savewater! awards® winners have been announced at a gala ceremony held at the Grand Hyatt in Melbourne. The 14 winners were shortlisted from over 800 entries received from all over Australia.
The ceremony, which saw 400 distinguished guests from around Australia present, is a way in which water saving stars can be rewarded and recognised for their outstanding efforts to water conservation.
Environmental Consultant and MC for the evening, Mr Rob Gell, led the proceedings and believes it is encouraging to observe a move in the right direction towards a more sustainable lifestyle.
Nigel Finney, CEO of the savewater!® Alliance was delighted with the calibre of this year’s award winners.
“All of this year’s savewater! awards® winners have highlighted the significant changes in the thinking and behaviour of Australians towards water conservation,” said Mr. Finney.
Melbourne Zoo was the recipient of the prestigious Award for Excellence which was awarded to the Zoo for its outstanding contribution to water sustainability. Through the implementation of an extensive water management plan, the Zoo has been able to halve their water usage.
