Two of Werribee Open Range Zoo's cheetahs, Kaidi and Inkosana, were given routine health checks this week. The seven-year-old brothers underwent a general examination by the zoo's senior veterinary team and also endoscopic tests by specialists from the Melbourne Veterinary Specialist Centre.

The ageing giraffe had been treated extensively by zoo veterinarians, and alternative treatments such as acupuncture had been tried, but it did not prevent his condition from worsening recently. Tony, who is 18 years old, had been suffering athritis in his hip joint for some time, so Zoo vets decided to try the ancient Chinese alternative treatment, in combination with his existing treatments, to help ease his discomfort.

Giraffe Harold has been released from quarantine and is making new friends in the wide open grassy plains at Werribee Open Range Zoo. The friendly 18 month old giraffe was in quarantine for several weeks following a 700 kilometre road trip from his former home, Monarto Zoo in South Australia.

Find out moreGiraffe Kona is settling well into his new home at Werribee Open Range Zoo after his 700 kilometre road trip from Monarto Zoo, south west of Adelaide. Kona proved popular with many residents in country towns, with dozens of people lining the streets to catch a glimpse of the young giraffe. Kona and his crew of Zoo Keepers and Vets stopped in several towns including Bordertown, Nhill, Horsham and Ballarat.

Harold made the 700 kilometre road trip on December 29 and is currently in quarantine. But in a few weeks he will be stretching his legs in the Lower Savannah with four other giraffe: Tony, Kinta, Amani and Thembi.
