Giraffe Kona reunited with brother after road trip

Giraffe Kona is settling well into his new home at Werribee Open Range Zoo after his 700 kilometre road trip from Monarto Zoo, south west of Adelaide.

Kona proved popular with many residents in country towns, with dozens of people lining the streets to catch a glimpse of the young giraffe.

Kona and his crew of Zoo Keepers and Vets stopped in several towns including Bordertown, Nhill, Horsham and Ballarat.

On arrival at Werribee Open Range Zoo ten hours later, Kona was reunited with his younger brother Harold who also made the trip from Monarto Zoo several weeks ago.

The pair will undergo quarantine for a month, before being released into the spectacular grassy plains of the Lower Savannah where four giraffe, rhinos, zebra and antelope roam.

We'll keep you posted when they will go on public display!
